Ram baseball team goes 1-3 last week

The Rams baseball team picked up their second win of the season last week after starting off with two losses. Greene County is 2-13 this season. 

On Monday, June 12,  the Rams hosted South Hamilton, falling 9-4. Greene County started strong with three runs in the first. SHE countered with two runs in each of the third, fourth, fifth and sixth innings. The Rams had six hits, including a double and a home run both from Brayden Roberts. Gavyn Winters and Roberts each walked once, with Crew Conner reaching on an error. On the field, the Rams had 21 putouts, eight coming from Roberts, with six errors on 30 total chances. Camden Jacobs, Teagan Chisholm and Nathan Towers pitched, allowing eight hits with two walks, two hit batters and seven strikeouts. 

Wednesday’s game was in Prairie City where the Rams fell 10-4 to PCM. The game was tied 2-2 after the first inning, with Greene County scoring once more before PCM scored seven. The Rams had 10 hits, with a double each from Winters and Adam Bills. Three Rams walked, with Isaac Carman getting hit by a pitch and Lane Fields reaching on an error. On the field, the Rams had 18 putouts with nine errors on 32 total chances. Matthew Hovick was on the mound, allowing 10 hits with two walks, two hit batters and four strikeouts. 

The Rams played a double header at Roland-Story High School on Thursday. In the first game, the Rams won 7-6 after trailing 5-0 going into the third inning before scoring three runs. Both teams scored one in the fourth, putting the score at 6-4. Greene County scored three in the fifth, sealing the win. There were six hits for Greene County, including a double each from Winters and Roberts. On the field, the Rams had 21 putouts with eight from Conner, four each from Winters and Roberts. Noah Hinote was on the mound, throwing 111 pitches for eight hits, two walks, one hit batter and four strikeouts.

In the second game, the Rams fell 14-2 after trailing throughout the game. The Rams had four hits, all singles, with two from Winters and one each from Bills and Hinote. On the field, the Rams had 12 putouts, seven from Conner, with two team errors on 18 total chances. Winters, Jacobs and Fields split pitching duty, allowing 13 hits with 12 earned runs, five walks and three hit batters.
